My final idea for Competitions, Festivals, Exhibitions
Taking my research and my personal opinions, I am going to be re-branding games for different target audiences.
The aim of this is to highlight the social impact that branding has on not just children, but also parents. Since the release of Fortnite (Epic Games, 2017), video games have become more apparent to parents as it took the world by storm. Many parents still let their children play even the game, but just limit it, which shows the games content is not always a concern to parents. Fortnite is a violent game, where players kill each other.

The branding, marketing, and art style is why the game is not much of a concern to parents. The fun colours, design, and wacky trailers distract from the violence. However, games such as Grand Theft Auto V (Rockstar, 2013) and Call of Duty (Activision, 2003-) are considered too violent for kids by parents, because they aren't branded as a wacky and crazy experience. They're branded as gritty, hardcore shooters.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 (Activision, 2018) |
My idea is to take games like these, and re-brand them similarly to Fortnite. The branding will be fun, cartoonish, and 'kid-friendly'. The point is to show that parents are not worried about content, but as long as they see that it looks 'kid-friendly', they're happy for their children to play.
Disclaimer: I myself am a gamer and have grown up with my parents worrying about what games I am playing. I am not saying every parent is oblivious to violence in games. This project is purely a social comment.
